Planning a themed birthday party

Planning your child’s birthday party is never easy. After all, you need to make sure they have a day that is memorable for all the right reasons. So, if your child has a particular interest or hobby, why not plan a themed birthday party? From Star Wars to unicorns, there are so many ideas to choose from and a wide range of resources to help you create the perfect day. As a fantastic children’s entertainer, Mr Stix and his team have been to more children’s birthday parties than anyone else on the planet. Well, probably. So this is our guide to planning a themed birthday party.

Costume

While a themed birthday party doesn’t have to come with a costume, it can be really good way to get your child involved in the planning process and excited about the event. They might want to dress up as their favourite character, or they might have really creative ideas that will surprise you. Either way, costumes can be a great addition for a themed party.

Decorations

A themed party comes down ultimately to the decorations. So whether its unicorn cake toppers or pirate flags, shop around and choose the best decorations for your party. You can often check the Poundshop and other low cost stores to find a bargain. Decorations can include:

  • cake toppers
  • bunting
  • balloons
  • chair covers
  • cardboard cutouts
  • themed pinata

Centrepiece

Having said that, some parties can make the most out of a centrepiece. Whether its a specially created princess shaped birthday cake or an inflatable football net and footballs, a centrepiece can tie your costumes or dress code to your smaller decorations and fully unite your theme. They will also provide a really good photo opportunity. Some centrepiece ideas for different themed parties include:

  • a themed play-tent such as a castle or a fairy cottage
  • a large inflatable such as R2-D2 or a minion

Entertainment

Once you have your party looking perfect, you need to consider entertainment. Themed party games can be a great way to keep your children entertained, not to mention a professional children’s entertainer.
